Heather and Paragon are a naturally talented team who have a earned the Alternate spot on the 2012 USA Dressage Team in London.   They've worked hard and are naturally blessed with talent - simply stated, "They are an incredible pair"  (very nice woman, very sweet horse).  But talent is not all that is required  to compete in the Olympic Games and the journey is very expensive. 

The USA wants its share of gold medals.  But contrary to the beliefs of many, the USA is one of the few countries that does not provide direct government support to its Olympic athletes. The U.S.A relies on revenues from corporate sponsorships, and individual donations to field a competitive team.   With unemployment still up, and public budgets crunched, no politician is going to vote for dedicating tax dollars to all Olympic sports and it's prospective athletes.
