U.S.A. Dressage Team Cleans Up at the 2011 Pan Am
Games...
Heather and Paragon had a very successful trip
to Mexico. They came home with a gold
medal for the team test and a silver medal for the individual tests. Team USA took the podium with the Gold,
Silver and Bronze Medals in the individual tests. The United States’ sweep of an unprecedented
fourth straight Nations Cup victory and all three individual medals was a first
for any country in dressage in the 60-year history of the Pan American Games.
Heather and Paragon came close to the individual
gold medal at the Pan American Games.
They laid down a score of 86.65% in the freestyle. It was the kind of test that prompted the
audience to burst into spontaneous applause.
Heather Blitz and Paragon placed reserve champion of
the small tour at the USEF Collecting Gaits Festival of Champions in September
2011. Paragon pulled off a stellar
performance all three days of competition and placed 2nd behind the favorite veteran
rider, Steffen Peters in all three classes.
This placement secured them a spot on the U.S.A. Pan
Am Dressage Team in Guadalajara, Mexico in October 2011. It is the pair's first chance to represent
the USA in an international championship.
Heather and Paragon will depart next
week for Gladstone, NJ for the USEF Festival of Champions, National
Championships and Selection Trials for the Pan American Games. The dates
are September 8th - 11th, 2011. Paragon and Heather qualified for the
trials and are ranked second in the nation behind Steffen Peters on
Weltinoʼs Magic and ahead of 14 other horse rider combinations. The
three days of competition will determine the team of three who will go
to Mexico in October for the Pan American Games. They compete, starting
with no advantage as far as their current ranking, combining scores
from the Prix St. Georges on Thursday, the Intermediare 1 on Friday and
the Intermediare Freestyle on Sunday.
